Background info about The Midnight Beast

The Midnight Beast are a British group from London, they are most famous for their YouTube cover parody of Tik Tok by Kesha and their video version include all three group members Stefan Abingdon, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne.

Stefan Abingdon has been in other bands that include Ink, Icarus Burning (2005), Killafornia, R.U.Twin, The Clik Clik (2005–2007), Perfect People, Chapters (previously known as The Midnight Patrol - still present), and The Midnight Beast (Still present). Dru Wakely was also a member of Icarus Burning, The Clik Clik and Perfect People.

Ashely Horne has been in such programmes as Eastenders, Genie In The House, Foyles War, Maths Mansion and Doctor Who.

Why we chose The Midnight Beast

We have decided to go for 'House Party' by The Midnight Beast for several different reasons, the first was we can make the video realistic as possible as we have loads of perfect locations such as Oxford or making a simple trip to London. This is because our video needs to be shot in several places which have to be outside and these two locations fit perfectly into the music video. Our first idea is to use the Oxford Botanic Gardens as a set for out outdoor dancing scenes as well as Carfax Tower. Another advantage for using these landmarks is we all live pretty close to the main town where we will be creating a good, entertaining and knowledable music video.

Another main reason why we chose The Midnight Beast is because, they are relitivly an unknown band apart from their latest works with the BBC, however this still hasnt stopped us from changing our minds as we have the perfect locations, plenty of extras, the correct probs/ costumes and not forgetting our background knowledge of filming. By choosing an unknown band it is more likely for the video to be taken in new directions and maybe even improving it.

Digipak Info

In our coursework this year we also have to design and make a Digipak for our video. A Digipak basically consists of a Home page for the band, DVD cover and a Magazine ad for the DVD, as a group we will be choosing two out of the three therefore we have chosen to do a DVD cover and a Magazine ad.

A Digipak is often used to package CD Aduio, CD ROM and DVD discs, the patented Digipak is designed as the perfect replacement to the traditional plastic jewel box. Digipak is a self contained package that protects the disc.

Action Plan

As a group we are creating a music video with a home page for the band, DVD cover and magazine ad for the DVD. We have to choose two out of the three.
Our first task we carried out was looking at many different music videos, possibly unsigned to see which one was best for us to do. We used the internet  to do some research, however for some of the bands we chose was our knowledge from our local talent.
Here is a list of bands we have looked at:

Mercury Prize!

On Tuesday 7th of September The Mercury Prize took place Grosvenor House Hotel in London. BBC 2 covered the event filming many amazing live performances. 6 music, was also broadcasting live from the event throughout the evening.

The nominated 12 albums will be announced on Tuesday 20 July.

The prize is open to all styles of music and was initially established by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and the British Association of Record Dealers (BARD) in 1992 as an alternative to the more commercial BRIT Awards. The prize takes its name from a former telecoms sponsor, 'Mercury', and is judged solely on the strength of the recorded album as opposed to record sales or media profile of a particular artist.

For the third year running, Lauren Laverne, from 6 Music, will be presenting the BBC Television's coverage of the prize.
